Haleakala, take 2

So we loved hiking the inside of Haleakala so much the last time we were in Maui, we wanted to do it again today.  We didn't need to see the sunrise so we set out a little later in the morning--6am.
Very cold and cloudy when we started out.  We almost didn't go.  43 degrees at 8:30am.

About an hour into the hike.  Still pretty cloudy.

Finally, we can see into the crater (erosional depression).
A Nene

The last time we were here, we had lunch with 2 French Canadian girls.    This time:  2 Nenes.

Much clearer this time at this point.  You can see the roof of the cabin in the middle of the picture.

Took this same picture in May.
This is still our favorite hike.  We are going to try to do it every time we are in Maui.  We were very sore when we got back to the hotel.  11 miles (5 1/2 hours) is no cake walk!
