Districts and Sectionals

In August, my tennis team played in Districts and Sectionals.  We won districts by winning 3 matches best of five.  I think our team scraped by in the first 2, 3-2 then won the last match 4-1.  We had help from the other half in beating out the top team.  We were all very surprised that we won!

We only had 8 available players for Districts:  Maya, Joy, Eva, Ann, Janna, Polly, PJ and Jane.
Polly and I played and won all 3 matches in Districts.
Polly plays the forehand side, I am on the backhand.

Team meeting during sectionals.  We actually won our first 3 matches.  I didn't help so much, lost 2 out of 3.

My mommy came and watched all of the matches and took hundreds of pics.  Thanks Mom!
We beat Nevada, Idaho and Wyoming.  Colorado was also undefeated going into the last match.  They beat all 5 of our teams.  Polly and I had a close match against 2 young girls.  We came from behind to win the 2nd set then lost in a third set tie breaker.  Still, pretty good to do so well at 4.5.  Who knew??

Happy Birthday Dan the Man

Dan got a shirt, a book and a lovely Disney picture for his birthday.

Shelby's first games at Dixie

Tad and Kass and I went to St. George on Thursday to watch Shelby's first regular season games.  We were lucky enough to stay with Cherie and Gary Leavitt in their beautiful home.

There was a little confusion at the start so they just had the starters run out on the field.
This game was a 2-2 tie versus Cal State LA.  Shelby played all 110 minutes.  Krissy Page scored the first goal for Dixie.  Yay Krissy!

Tad exploring the backyard.
Kass working on her tan.

Tad playing pool boy.  He had a great time with the pool.

Shelby and Kass after the first game.

Dixie lost the 2nd game against Sonoma St 2-1.  Ashleigh Jameson was there to watch her little sister Abby play.
We sat with Ashleigh through the 2nd game then went and took pics with Ashley Woollam.  She trained all four girls.  Kass and Ashleigh at BYU.  Now Shelby and Abby at Dixie.

Shelby is Gone

You can't really tell, but everything Shelby owns is in her car.

Mikey came to help her pack.

Shelby and Mikey!

Tad went to MDA Camp from Aug 4th - 9th.  Shelby moved out on August 8th.  Kass and Drew moved in on August 9th.  They will move out on Sept 6th.  Then we are down to 2 kids.  Haven't had only 2 kids since Dec 1993.

MDA Camp

These pics are just taken before Tad went to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy) Camp in Kamas with Josh Blotter.  He was not real excited to go, really didn't want to leave LuLu, but he did it!  He took care of a 10 year old boy named Dylan.  It was hard.  He went from August 4th -9th.

Bees game

Ok, I have missed a few days.  Tonight we went to the Bees game with Carrie, Luke, Emily and Lindsey.  I took the kids on the train and the playground.  Tad took this cute pic of Dan and his sisters.

We decided that Tad and Luke look like brothers.

Chinese week complete

So Monday night the Chinese kids came back from Southern Utah.  We got Star and Jack back.  It turns out that they were two of the boys who stayed here Friday night.

Trevor teaching them the finer points of ice cream sundaes.

We put them to work on Tuesday making chicken kabobs.

Jumping on the trampoline with LuLu.  I am guessing they haven't spent a lot of time on trampolines.

Star, Jack and LuLu.
So on Tuesday, Jack was playing with LuLu and she bit his thumb.  I am guessing he was taking the ball out of her mouth or was making her jump up to grab a toy.  Anyway, he was a little worried about the danger of rabies.  He told me about bleeding, but I just blew it off.  It was barely a scratch.

On Friday night, we went to the Real Salt Lake game.  I kept receiving phone calls but didn't answer them cuz I didn't know who it was and I couldn't hear anyway.  On the way home, one of the neighbors finally got a hold of Dan.  They asked if Jack got bit by a dog.  We asked him and he said, "no."  Then they asked if he told his mom that he got bit by a dog.  He said, "yes."

Apparently, the Chinese word for "bit" and "attack" is the same.  His poor mother was worried that he had been attacked by a dog.  The teachers from his school were convinced that the reason they couldn't reach us was because we were at the hospital with Jack.  We went straight to their house from the soccer game to show them how tiny the bite was.  They were still concerned.  I had to send LuLu's vet records to them to prove she did not have rabies.  Then I spent 2 hours on IM reassuring Jack's mother through Star's mother that Jack was fine.   They had even called the director in San Francisco to see what should be done.  I think LuLu almost started a major war between China and USA.

Star made lunch for us on Saturday.  We asked him what it was called.  He said, "eggs, tomatoes and onions."

Jack loves basketball.  They had a friend over and shot some hoop.

Mike, Star and Jack

Star's favorite thing he did all week was the Kinect.  Jack liked the Bees and Real games.  Sorry Zions, Shakespeare Festival, Kennecott Copper Mine, Park City, Capital Bldg, Gateway and Temple Square.

Dan took them on a tour of Bountiful Mazda.

Tad and I had them help us load the candy machine.
We had a great time getting to know Jack and Star.  They were very polite, happy and helpful.  We had a talent show on Saturday with the youth from our ward and the Chinese students.  Star played the guitar and sang and Jack played the hulusi.  Dan thought it was very cool so Jack gave it to him.

They also each gave us a photo book from their district.  It was very similar looking to Utah.  So much so that  we found a pic that has the exact same rock formations as are in Monument Valley, Utah.  I mean exact!  Oops, I don't want to say anymore...we already have the LuLu incident on our record.
